La feria del apóstol Santiago en Santiago de Chuco

No ratings yet

A newsreel from the 1940s depicting the Feast of St. James in the province of Santiago de Chuco shows the Quiyayas, a traditional dance of colonial origin, dancing in striking jipijapa hats adorned with flowers, multicolored ribbons, and antique objects embellished with gold and silver. On July 25th, the traditional procession of the image of St. James the Greater departs from the church and winds its way through the town, accompanied by a choir showering flowers before the image, devout worshippers, and local dancers. In the city's main square, where the national flag flies, a pre-military parade takes place, featuring marching bands and schoolchildren accompanied by their teachers.
